Meet Ruby – Our Exceptional Dam
Ruby is more than just a beloved member of our family—she is a fully trained service dog who supports my neurodiverse sons. Unlike emotional support animals, service dogs must be government-certified, requiring both the right disposition and extensive training. This will be Ruby’s last litter before she is spayed and completes her service dog certification.
When I needed a second service dog for my family, I made the decision to breed Ruby due to her exceptional temperament and genetic mix. Her lineage includes:
Mother: Australian Shepherd / Springer Spaniel
Father: Australian Shepherd / Border Collie
Ruby embodies the best qualities of these breeds—a strong work ethic, eagerness to please, deep sensitivity, unwavering loyalty, keen intuition, and natural athleticism. However, unlike many high-drive working dogs, she does not exhibit excessive energy, strong herding instincts (such as nipping heels), or an overwhelming need for constant mental stimulation.
Breeding Ruby back to an Australian Shepherd allowed me to enhance the specific Aussie traits I desired in her puppies while maintaining a well-balanced temperament.
A Stunning & Unique Coat
Ruby’s diverse genetics not only make her a phenomenal service animal and exceptional family companion but also give her a one-of-a-kind appearance. She is a shaded sable harlequin merle with striking amber eyes, resulting in truly breathtaking coat patterns. One little boy once described her as looking like a s’more—a perfect way to capture her warm and unique beauty!
The Inspiration Behind Our Name
Ruby’s genetic diversity, stunning coloring, and her role in supporting my neurodiverse children—combined with our home near Mosquito Creek in North Vancouver—led to the creation of Creekside Diverse Aussies. We believe in "Diverse dogs for diverse people"—but if you consider a bit more neuro-typical, don’t worry, our dogs will love you just as much!
