Ruby

Ruby is our family’s service dog that I raised and trained for this purpose. She supports my two young sons who are neuro-diverse and have challenging needs. Unlike emotional support animals, service dogs must be certified. The requires in-depth training as well as a dog with the right disposition for this work. Ruby will become fully certified when she is 2 and spayed. Already capable completing all tasks required for certification and works in public with her training vest, she should pass testing with flying colours.

Given my family’s unique needs, we require 2 service dogs. It made more sense to breed Ruby, then to source another puppy. Ruby’s exceptional temperament, high intelligence, medium toy and food drive and smaller size make her ideal. I attribute this to her specific breeding. Ruby’s mom is an Australian Shepard/ Springer Spaniel and her dad, is an Australian Shepard/ Border Collie. Both parents come from non-working lines.

Ruby retains the work ethic, eagerness to please, sensitivity, loyalty, intuition and athleticism that these breeds are prized for, but without the high energy, herding instincts (nipping heels), protectiveness/ aggression and need for extensive mental stimulation. These later traits are what can result in anxiety and destructive behaviour when the physical and mental needs of these working dogs are not met.

Ruby’s diverse genetics is what make Ruby a phenomenal service animal and exceptional family dog. She also has extremely unique colouring due to her genetics. Ruby is a shaded sable harlequin merle with bright amber eyes. which explains her stunning colours and the amazing colours of her puppies. As one little boy commented, Ruby looks like a smore!

Ruby’s genetic diversity, diverse colouring and her ability to support my neuro-diverse children, plus our location off Mosquito Creek in North Vancouver, is how we got our name… Creekside Diverse Aussies. Diverse dogs for diverse people…. and if you consider yourself pretty normal, our dogs will love you just as much!
