Service Dogs

When people think of service dogs, breeds like Labradors and Golden Retrievers often come to mind. However, many other breeds excel in service work. Thanks to laws allowing individuals with disabilities to select and train their own service animals, a wider variety of dogs are now being trained for specialized tasks.

To become a certified service dog team, handlers and their dogs must pass a government-issued Public Accessibility Test, which evaluates 40 essential skills, including obedience, focus in public spaces, and task-specific abilities. It can take up to 2 years to master these skills and develop the necessary maturity to pass. Professional trainers, such as those at Wag The Dog or Happi Dog Training can help guide individuals through this process.

Diverse Aussie puppies excel in this work due to their intelligence, loyalty, and trainability. Many of our puppies are currently in training, and some are now certified. All the puppies in the photos below are Diverse Aussie Service Dogs in Training. If you're interested in learning more about our program or how a Diverse Aussie could be the right service partner for you, we’d love to help!
